Questions & Answers

This is a list of questions some of our customers and prospective clients have asked us over the years. If you have a question you'd like to ask, please send it to us and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. If your question is helpful to others, we may even put it on this page!

Can you give a rough estimate for the cost of tuckpointing/repointing my home?
Unfortunately, we can only give you a quote after examining your home, with you present! Two buildings requiring exactly the same amount of tuckpointing can vary wildly in price, depending on the underlying bricks and materials, and we prefer to have our customer present so we can clarify exactly what needs to be done and why.

Do you match quotes?
We aim to give you the best value possible - let us know if you've got other quotes for your home, and we'll do our very best to beat them. On the rare occasions where customers have found better quotes than ours, they often discover that the 'better' quote they were given often didn't include everything they actually wanted to get!

Can you tuckpoint any bricks?
Tuckpointing works best with red or brown bricks. We typically apply a light mortar to darker bricks, and a dark mortar to light bricks when tuckpointing to help contrast the two colours.

Can you change the colour of my bricks?
We can stain your bricks to turn them a darker or lighter shade, but if a complete colour change is needed we will need to re-render the entire surface.

How old does a building have to be before tuckpointing is necessary?
Typically, we tuckpoint homes that have not been restored for 20 years or longer; however, almost any red-brick building that has never been tuckpointed before will benefit from a professional tuckpoint. Even brand new buildings are sometimes tuckpointed! We also provide restoration of existing tuckpointing that needs a touch-up; this is far cheaper and faster than tuckpointing from scratch.

How long does tuckpointing usually take?
It depends on the size and complexity of the job, but a typical tuckpointing job (some repointing, dampcoursing and a full tuckpointing on the facade of a period home) takes between 3-5 days. Adverse weather conditions can affect this, as tuckpointing/repointing in stormy conditions can lead to complications. Small jobs can be done within a day, whereas especially large jobs may take weeks or even months!

How long does tuckpointing typically last?
Applied properly, a good tuckpointing lasts over 20 years without significant degradation. Unique Tuckpointing offers a 10-year guarantee on all our work.

Which areas do you service?
We service all metropolitan areas in Western Australia, and we will consider regional jobs depending on the size and complexity of the job.

Do you work on weekends?
Like most Aussies, we'd prefer not to - but we will if we have to! We often do this if, for example, a job that we expected to finish in a week gets delayed because of bad weather.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Our preferred forms of payment are cash and bank transfer, but we will accept cheques too.

Do you offer bulk or package discounts?
Where a job covers multiple buildings, or requires multiple services (e.g. repointing, dampcoursing and tuckpointing) we will usually offer a discount on one or more of these.

Do you offer cash discounts?
We usually offer cash discounts for quotes over $500.
